WHY? Why, oh why do Muslims, like Mohammed Hijab, speak about subjects they have not properly studied? Or do they believe that they have some prerogative, having acquired the status of "influencer" with a particular online reach, to speak about important matters off the cuff? "A long time coming"?! It would have been better had Hijab simply stayed silent, if this was his contribution to addressing the Sikhs. Frankly speaking, this was an abysmal attempt, and one which, I fear, could potentially turn Sikhs away from Islam rather than persuade them towards it.No one will be attracted to those who speak about something, as dear to them as their religion no less, based upon ignorance, because, at best, it will be taken as half truths, and, at worst, outright lies and distortions. You're not going to come across as "authentic" to anyone speaking about things you don't know much about. STAY SILENT, because then people like me have to now go around picking up the pieces you've left behind. What kind of argument is this that, since the Guru Granth has writings of Muslims, that, therefore, Sikhism is too close to Islam for it to claim independence? This reasoning is nonsensical, not least of all because you, as a Muslim da'ee, you should know that this line of inquiry is precisely what some Christians bring to Muslims in their claim that our Prophet copied from the Bible.Who told you that Sikhs can space out their minimum of three prayers per day to five? And how does ritual purification via washing or daily litanies (repeating God's names) somehow serve as proof of your absurd claim when such activities are widespread practices within many faiths? Have you picked up their scriptures and read them? Evidently not, because had you bothered to, then you'd have known that their concept of God is diametrically opposed to Surah al-Ikhlas. Now, unless you're a closet extreme Sufi who believes in Wahdatul Wujud, the orthodox 'Aqeedah of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa'ah does not believe that Allah comprises of two halves: one that is entirely attributeless (Nirgun), and the other that is attributed (Sargun), at the same time in the same respect. Neither does it hold to the notion of creatio ex deo. While I recognise that you adhere to creatio ex nihilo, and reject creatio ex materia or creatio ex creatione; either way though, we do not believe that creation was derived from Allah's dhaat like Hinduism and Sikhism hold as a primary tenet. And appealing to Western academics like McLeod, Trumpp, Cunningham et al. - the same academics who are cut from the same cloth as those who have wilfully distorted our religion for centuries - is the worst possible way of grounding your emotional appeals. I've read most of the works of these aforementioned individuals, and as a Muslim who's researched Sikhism for over two decades, I can tell you point blank that, firstly, while they claim similarities, they also acknowledge fundamental differences. In fact, McLeod restricted his claim of influence re. Guru Nanak to the Sant tradition of Northern Punjab, more specifically the Vaishnava Bhakti movement who placed greater emphasis on the Nirguna status of God.Finally, you cannot put up a case for intellectualism and honesty while inviting Sikhs to Islam based on your misguided representation of their religion. That's not how da'wah works, and that's certainly not from the wisdom our Lord tells us to utilise when inviting others to Islam. In the end, stop talking about subjects you clearly don't know enough about, because you'll alienate the very people you deludingly believe you're inviting. ...
